LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT ISSUED TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES TO CONTROL THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 IN THE STATE.
The Lagos State Government has introduced new guidelines to curtail further spread of COVID-19 virus in the state, following the systematic relax of lockdown by the Federal Government in Lagos, Ogun and FCT from Monday, 4th May, 2020.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, stated the new guidelines are active measures to prevent the spread of the deadly vrius through transportion.
Dr. Frederic said this while briefing the media at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa.
According to Dr. Oladeinde all commercial and commuter operations within the state shall be between the hours of 6a.m and 7p.m daily from 4th May, revealing that it is compulsory for all commuters to wear nose covers, wash their hands with soap under running water and use alcohol-based sanitisers before and after each trip.
While he also announced the instant suspension of all inter-State operations and movements, the commissioner highlighted that it is another strategy adopted by the State Government to control further spread of COVID-19.
He said further that the use of motorcycles for commercial activities would not support the physical distancing rule as directed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), pointing out, therefore, that motorcycle operations are not allowed in anywhere in the state during this period.
Dr. Oladeinde also warned all commercial passenger vehicles not to exceed 60% of their capacity at this crucial time, while physical distancing rule must be obeyed both at motor parks and in the buses, maintaining that Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Lagos Bus Services Ltd (LBSL) must not convey more than 21 passengers, must not permit standing in their buses and should keep the air-conditioners switched off always, yellow buses must not convey more than eight passengers (two on a row) and tricycles are to convey two passengers, while private car owners must also maintain physical distancing.
Finally, he explained that no water transport operators would be allowed to operate beyond 6p.m during the gradual easing of the lockdown, insisting that ferry passengers must wear life jackets, in addition to observing all rules by the NCDC and Ministry of Health for prevention of contracting the LAGOS
