‘Don’t vote for people you don’t know,’ Kekemeke tells Ondo State Citizensi
By; Ranti Fanayajon.
One time legislator in Ondo State who was also the Chief Admin officer of the state (Secretary to State Government) who have served as pioneer State Secretary of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP and pioneer State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Isaac Kekemeke has urged Ondo State citizens not to vote for unknown person in the forthcoming governorship election.
Kekemeke who made the statement in recent time in an exclusive interview with a correspondent of the City Movers Magazine clearly revealed that he have unequal familiarity with the terrain of Ondo State, he is not only close with the people but have passion for their better living.
He is a lawyer by profession but practice politics as vocation, he’s from Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State and he did interface his legal practice of 30 years with his public life for that period of time.
Speaking on his aspiration to run for Ondo State Governor, he said it was as a result of a prophetic encounter that leads to genuine repentance and aided by unequal experience. In addition, he said he have a vision which he believed is God’s given to create a prosperous and peaceful State where citizens will be productively engaged to enable them live meaningful, decent and comfortable life.
“Our mission is to with the aid of information, science and technology maximally Impact government resources on human the capital and natural endowment of the State to create wealth. In addition, our aim is to make government seeable, touchable and feel able while our objective is to use the entire governmental power which is next to God’s to fight hunger, poverty, unemployment, insecurity and rescue our decaying basic infrastructure. We need to ensure that the wellbeing and welfare of the greater number of the people as a matter of fact is the only responsibility of the government. Kekemeke Stated.”
While explaining how sure he is on the project, he said, he believed in the possibility of him becoming the next governor of Ondo State because God has strengthened him in the last 15 months not only to consult but sensitize and recruit people to be part of his vision.
He added that he was overwhelmed by the kind of support and acceptance received. “It will interest you to know that I have held over one thousand town hall type meetings and we have meeting going on everywhere in the State and the people are responding well.”
Kekemeke said, he’s not a type of politician that will bribe people because doesn’t have the money and even doubted it if anybody has such amount of money to buy all the people in Ondo State. He further explained that the summary of his key messages revealed that ‘it’s time to put the people first.
He stated further that he has developed what is called ‘Lekeleke Development Goals’ LDG having social and economic goals. In social goals, there is education, healthcare etc while in the economic goals there is agriculture, industries, entrepreneurship, promotion, skill development and tourism.
He said, agriculture is not only a main economic programme but research has revealed that Ondo State people do spend between 2 to 3 billion naira monthly on tomatoes and onions only. “If 2 to 3 billion naira is spent on tomatoes and onions only, you can then imagine what would be spent on buying yam, beans, rice and other food stuffs. It’s unfortunate that close to 10 to 20 billion naira gets out of Ondo State to Northern State where all these food stuffs are being produced.”
Kekemeke therefore said he would digitize Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s concept of farm settlement. “A lot of people talk about agric villages in other word giving a new name to what Chief Awolowo conceived in the 1960s. Unknown to them, even wholesale application of the concept of Chief Awolowo is like 1960 solution to a 2020 problem and that is a reason those agric villages haven’t worked. So, we have decided to update that concept of farm settlement to the concept of civil farmers by taking certain steps; First, the mechanical preparation of available land, Second, the employment and training of farm extension worker, Third, partnership with Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority for irrigation and digging of boreholes in those prepared mechanized farm; Fourth, work very hard by investing in fertilizers, Five, give enhanced and quality seedlings.”
In addition, he has conceptualized three main goals to achieve the followings; (1) To feed Ondo State people, so that the money sent to Northern part of Nigeria remains here, (2) Earn sustainable income from the State’s agricultural programme and (3) Turn the product of the farm to raw materials for agro-allied industries.
In his message to Ondo State citizens, Kekemeke urged them not to collect money from any politician before or during the election. “My candid message to the good people of Ondo State is that they should not accept N3, 000 at the next governorship election because N3, 000 equals to N62, 50k per month, don’t accept N30, 000 because it equals to N625 per month and don’t even accept N300, 000 because it equals to N6, 250 naira only per month, He advised.”
