Alcohol misuse has been a contemporary social problem of enormous significance. Statistically speaking it is believed that many young people get increasingly exposed to the drugs and practices of alcohol after gaining entrance in by colleges.
Globally there has been availability and misuse of alcohol among youths and the consequences have been a thing of serious concern to almost everyone including the Nigeria government.
However findings/research show that majority of the youth who are into consumption of alcohol and some other drug finding themselves in the bondage due to one reason or the other.
Firstly an addicted person can be someone suffering from depression who always feel that he/she must take alcohol at all time for his body may actually need it but at that rate he/she will goes on craving for it because it is already difficult to stop.
Furthermore,most of the youth have already become solemnly dependent on alcohol as this tend to manifest in everything they do each day where by most if them find it hard to work without taking alcohol or using drugs even to engage in ordinary sport activities.
Also, alcoholism can also be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental influences this form of addiction usually causes damage to a person mental physical and emotional health and will require professional help to overcome the predicament which only few happen to scale through due to some damages that was already done by the excessive intake of liquor.
Some of the negative effect of alcohol includes high blood pressure, stroke, pancreatitis, liver disease, liver cancer, mouth cancer, head and neck cancer, breast cancer to mention few.
Beyond health consequences the harmful use of alcohol also brings significant social and economic losses to individuals and society at large.
Recommendation
To stop the drinking of alcohol and any form of liquor you first need to understand your relationship with drinking from there you May need social support consistent self care and new routines that can help redirect your mind.
Also government agencies like the national drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA) that addresses problem regarding drugs should enlighten the youth ly society about the danger attached to excessive drinking of alcohol and should target youth who need mental health assessment and intervention as this would help in reducing the high rate of alcohol consumption.
