In Nigeria today most of the people are “japa”to overseas since they think that “The grass is greener on the other side.
The word” japa”has become a popular name especially among the the youth in Nigeria.”Japa”is a slang derived from the Yoruba language ( Spoken in south Western Nigeria)which simply means”To run ,fleetly out if a situation.
This word is now adopted when referring to people immigration from Nigeria to another country.
According to the International Organization for migration ( UN Migration) International Organization is shaped by economic geographic, demographic and other factors, the current volatile unpredicted Nigeria economic and the stifling environment for young people are the major factor influencing the decision of many Nigerian to leave the country.
It is well known that young Nigerians are Creative,Dynamic and highly talented although there is another popular name that people are calling them “Lazy Nigerians Youth”and they are now increasing attracted by greener pastured that would offer them a better livelihood.
This Japa syndrome has been affecting many occupation in Nigeria such as Doctor, Teachers, traders etc because they are planning to leave the country to another country that will offer them better things than Nigeria.
Teachers from Nigeria planning to “Japa” had better think thoroughly about it in any case,if teaching is not possible over other profitable job will be available Leaving Nigeria for greener pastures abroad is what almost all Nigerians…Look forward and pray for
Besides , teachers in Nigeria.
particularly is not well treated and many opportunity for them to relocate is what many if them would joyfully want…But to look at it their are some problem they don’t even think about for instance the type of teaching we are practicing in Nigeria can only be accepted in Nigeria because most teachers never seem to have interest or find what to do to increase their .
knowledge, some teacher find it difficult to prepare a lesson note every term they would rather copy the old one this will never invest any area of expansion of knowledge especially in their area of specialisation
Furthermore it is in Nigeria that teacher are found copying note on the board for student directly from textbook and other materials because they are not ready to spare their time to digdeep on the subject…Student are therefore forced to spend hours writing note which affect other lesson.
In addition it is in Nigeria that teacher will teach student during the normal classes, organise compulsory lesson for them after the closing hour even during the holiday ,even after everything they will still collect money for “EXPO”to assist them in the examination hall ,all these unfavorable action will never be accepted in the white men
Besides ,foreign students are not like student in Nigeria who always appear too timid to ask question and Soo many things.
A Nigerian teacher that Japa to abroad practising all these action that does not know that he/she will be disgrace, degraded and bashed in the classroom by the students In conclusion,it is very important to note that the grass that is greener on the other side is mainly because they are watering itand that the answer they are looking for is already theirs even in their own country.
