Gunmen abduct traditional ruler, others in Ondo
In another wave of heightened insecurity in the Ondo North Senatorial district of Ondo State, some kidnappers have abducted another traditional ruler, the Oniku of Iku quarter, High Chief Mukaila Bello and three others at Ago Panu along Owo-Ikare road on Thursday evening while returning to Ikare from Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Other victims of the abduction are , chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Adeniran Adeyemo, a chief of Ikare kingdom, Yeye Gbafinro and a community leader, Mr. Bashiru Adekile. The driver who suffered matchet injury during the attack is currently getting medical attention at an undisclosed health facility in Owo.
As at the time of this report, the kidnappers have not made any demands as they have not made any contact.
In November 2020, a first Class traditional ruler of Ifon, the Olufon of Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Israel Adeusi was shot dead by suspected kidnappers along Elegbeka while returning to his kingdom from a meeting in Akure. Owo town had a sour taste of what can best be described as terrorism on Sunday, 5th June, 2022, when gunmen unleashed terror on Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Owa-luwa claiming over 40 lives of mostly women and children.
Another attack was recently launched on Craneburg construction company’s premises in Owo, leaving two workers of the company injured. This happened barely two months after an expatriate engineer of the company was abducted and a soldier guarding him was shot dead at a site also in Owo.
