It was free for all fight at Ifon, headquarters of Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state as the Northern Senitorial flag-off rally of APC ended in chaos.
The rally, which started with prayers ended without praise.
According to observers, trouble started few minutes to the end of the rally when the party’s house of representatives candidate, Hon. Timehin Adelegbe allegedly gave N7,000 to some party boys.
This incurred the wrath of the boys numbering about fifteen and angrily threw the money back at him on the ground that it was not enough accusing the federal lawmaker of not taking care of them enough. “Oga, na only your family members you de take care, na only Bola, i.e (Bola Adelegbe) de do all the contracts and party appointments, you appointed him DG, Aketi campaign organization in Ose, DG, Ipinsagba campaign & now deputy DG Tinubu Campaign Council. He is the only one enjoying all the work we do for you, you must settle us” the boys shouted. But to few others, they saw it as insult and afront to throw money back at their principal and attempted to repel them.
Consiquent upon the argument, the groups reportedly brought out dangerous weapons including guns and opened fire at each other in a show of force.
Following the sporadic shooting, party elders, members and all the candidates scampered for safety to escape accidental discharge or stray bullets as some of the candidates lied flat at the back seat of their cars commanding their drivers to drive out of the venue recklessly.
During the stampede, one of the leaders (name witheld) was reportedly abducted by the rampaging party boys who dragged him to a nearby beer parlour to pay ransom for other party leaders who escaped by the whiskers from the campaign ground.
It took the spirited efforts of the military personnel stationed at Ifon checkpoint to rescue Ipinsagba whose cars were said to be badly damaged and other leaders trapped by the hoodlums from the stampede.
