– Minister inspects Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano, commends President Buhari on infrastructure developmen
The Federal Government has reiterated its resolve to expand participation of littoral and non-littoral states in maritime and general logistics to complement the government’s blue economy initiative.
The Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, disclosed this on Thursday during the commissioning of the Council for Regulation and Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Kano Zonal Office in the Naibawa area of Kano, Kano State.
Adegoroye stated that the zonal office when optimally utilised will not only increase government revenue base but will ensure a safe, timely, sustainable and environmentally friendly movement of cargoes using the road and rail modes.
According to him, “The Federal Ministry of Transportation is optimistic about the derivable gains of CRFFN in areas like this which will also promote the profession of freight forwarding in the northern region.”
Speaking further, Adegoroye stated that it is his conviction that the commissioned CRFFN office will expand the list of certified freight forwarding professionals whose impact will be felt all over the country and their acquired expertise employed to harness opportunities that abound within the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by his Special Adviser on State Affairs, Hon. Murtala Dandawaki, noted that the crust of the Ganduje administration right from inception has always remained transportation as the sector is the backbone of trade and industry and they have strived to achieve this through policies that will enhance the movement of goods, services and other related services.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, stated that the Kano Zonal Office is expected to oversee the Council’s affairs in all the 19 states in the northern part of the country with focus on promoting enabling entrepreneurial environment for freight forwarding business and ensuring strict compliance to enabling laws establishing the Council, among others
The Registrar, Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, Sam Nwakohu, commended the feats so far achieved by the Ministers of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo and Prince Ademola Adegoroye, saying: “It is on record that within your short period, you have vigorously pursued the
completion of ongoing projects and strengthened the Ministry and her parastatals on the path of high performance.”
Meanwhile, the Minister, in the company of senior officers of the ministry, paid an unscheduled visit to the Dalai Lai Dry Port in Kano.
Adegoroye commended the great strides recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari in the area of infrastructure development in Nigeria, stressing that the president has forever written his name in gold in the history of the country.
He said the conception of the dry port in the first instance was a great idea by the Ministry, adding that he was impressed with what he has seen so far and commended the management of the port.
