The formation of this cultism was in good faith and with good intentions. Their activities and operations were aimed at fighting colonialism and oppression. They equally rendered social services such as blood donation to hospitals and presentation of gifts to orphanage homes etc.
Cultism in Nigeria began as far back as 1952. It started out as fraternities, and they were confined within universities campuses with the motive of maintaining law and order on campuses. The Pyrates Confraternity was started by seven students among which was the popular Nigerian Nobel Laurette, Wole Soyinka.
But in recent years it aims has been metamorphosis to other thing entirely. Thode involved now is using it as an act of extorting and intimidating one another. They Force some of their colleagues to collect there belongings and make them cry which has take with levity hand by the government. The secret cult are now raping female students, sabotage the right of other students and even threatening some of their lecturers for failing or reporting them.
This current situation has cases through misuse of drug of some students, poverty, loneliness among others which needs to be taken care of so that the student who want to learn will have peace of mind to face there study without been scared.
However, the school authorities high clouding the prophost and rectors should always seek for tight security in their various campuses and make sure they are working the way they are expected to do for the protection of there own personal life and the students of the campus.
Also, the government has to provide adequate security for the institutions to reduce violence and riot that may occur. In addition the government should provide enough equipment that would be used for learning by the students so that there academics will be easy.
Furthermore, the parents has to take care of there children very well starting from there childhood by teaching them good morals and lay as a good examples for there children.
